DVRDigital video is faster and easier to manage than analog systems. It also has the capability of being integrated with CCTV components and offers instant access to recorded or live video. Storage is easier than with analog because the volume of video that can be stored on a single disc far outweighs that which can be stored on a tape. Add to that the quality of the images digital video produces and the fact that the quality doesn't diminish over time, and you have a system that will give you reliable video data when you need it. CCTV is a closed system by its very nature. This means that the video is transmitted only to a limited number of monitors over a limited amount of distance. Digital video, however, is networked. It can be accessed from any location at any time with a simple telephone or Internet connection. In addition, multiple users can view the video data by instituting password access. Advantages of Digital Video SystemsDVR systems are easy to install and operate and are cost effective to maintain. Digital video allows significant flexibility in recording, such as a variety of frame rates which gives you control over disc space. Digital systems can be configured from central or remote locations, again providing flexibility that is not available with analog systems. When it comes to using the video data you gather, digital systems offer instant retrieval and the ability to search multiple storage sites. A networked system allows users to share information between sites. A single disc can take the place of over 30 VCR tapes which can mean storing months instead of days' worth of video. The quality of the recording also provides for greater admissibility in courtroom situations. ![]() Get all Surveillance articles via
