Ram JetThe Ram Jet name alone is enough to instill a feeling of reverence in classic car buffs as well as a sense of fear in competing engines. The Ram Jet dates all the way back to the '50s and GM's first fuel-injection systems. Now the brand has been re-released, and with the same outstanding fuel-injected performance that makes carburetors quake at the starting line (and you thought that was just the idle!). The current Ram Jet looks much like its predecessor of generations past, only with one critical difference. The new models take advantage of electronic engine-management features to help deliver superior horsepower and torque. But the Ram Jet doesn't stop there; it also delivers exceptional drivability thanks to its throttle response and maximized air-to-fuel ratios. Which Ram Jet Should I Buy?The answer to that question depends largely on your hot-rod. Are you looking for a small block engine? The Ram Jet 350, with its old-style intake manifold, MEFI 3 controller, and Vortec cylinder heads, is a good start. Or step up to a big block Ram Jet such as the legendary ZL1 or the 502 to bring home even bigger performance (though at a bigger price tag as well). For racing, towing, and all-around intimidation, there are few crate engines superior to a big block Ram Jet. Still, as with all GM crate engines, when you invest in a ZL1 or 502 you still get the total package, factory sealed and fully backed. When you're itching to get your old Corvette or Stingray out on the open road, the last thing you want to be doing is tracking down elusive engine parts to finish the job. ![]() Get all Auto Parts articles via
