Compression Garments For Lymphedema

by Amy Hall

Compression Garments for Lymphedema Treatment

Compression garments for lymphedema are worn to minimize swelling and return an affected limb to an almost-normal size. These compression garments are integral to the treatment process, and can and should be worn following Complete Decongestive Therapy and Manual Lymph Drainage. Doing so helps promote the flow of lymph, thus reducing pooling in certain areas and decreasing swelling.

Compresssion garments should be fitted by a professional therapist who is trained in doing circumferenial measurements for lymphedema. It is important that you get measured so that you decrease the chances of a garment fitting too tightly or too loosely. If it's uncomfortable, chances are you won't wear it, and this just brings you right back to square one again.

Types of Garments

Compression garments for lymphedema come in stockings, gloves, sleeves, and pantyhose. Most insurance companies will pay for part of the cost of these garments, if not all of the cost. Your doctor can recommend what type of garment you need, and once fitted, you can choose the style that suits your taste best.

Many online sites sell compression garments, and you can take some time to browse through their online catalogs. Ordering online is fast, convenient, and secure, and can be done from the comfort of your own home. Don't waste time, order your compression garments today, and start feeling relief immediately.
