The Lymphology Association of North America

The Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) is a non-profit organization comprised of professionals in the field of health care. There are phyicians, nurses, massage therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists who are experienced in the field of lymphology and lymphedema. These professionals have recognized the need for a national certification examination for lymphedema therapists, which tests their knowledge relative to the treatment of lymphedema.

To better serve this need, the LANA Board has initiated a fund-raising campaign for the purpose of developing and administering the certification exam. They have estimated the cost of this project to be around $100,000.00. LANA board members have personally contributed to this project and are asking patients, therapists, manufacturers of lymphedema products, and all those who will benefit from a national certification exam, for financial support.

The LANA Examination

The Lymphology Association of North America offers a certified exam for lymphedema therapists. This is the most prestigious, comprehensive examination for lymphedema therapists to take, and it is highly regarded around the world. This exam includes both a physical and a written exam.

Topics covered on the exam include the anatomy of the lymphatic system and the circulatory system, physiology, congenital disorders and secondary causes of lymphedema, as well as evaluation and treatment of lymphedema patients, which includes knowledge of Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy. There are many schools nationwide that match or exceed LANA requirements. If you are interested in taking the LANA test exam, make sure your school covers the topics you will be tested on.
