Youth Bible Studies

by Jessica Duquette

Youth bible studies are more frequently being led by a separate pastor in the church. Traditionally, one pastor was responsible for both adult and youth programs. As you can imagine, this can become an overwhelming responsibility for one person.

In the Old Days

When I was a child, the pastor would occasionally join our youth meetings. He spoke to us no differently than his adult students. This did not aid us in learning the word and will of God.

We expected our youth bible studies to include illustrations, music, books and the occasional cartoon depiction of biblical stories. What we were faced with was a shorter rendition of Sunday's monotonous sermon. A lot has changed since those days, and more churches are recognizing the importance of appealing to the youth.

Youth Bible Studies Today

Many youth pastors focus explicitly on the young adults in the church. They attend Sunday school, week night meetings filled with wholesome music and discussion and even a monthly dance sponsored at the church recreation center. These are just some of the ways that younger people are becoming more active in Christian churches.
