Flouropolymers

by Jill Morrison

Flouropolymers are a type of material that may be used for injection molding. Injection molding is a process where a material is melted into a liquid and injected into a specific mold design. The product is removed from the mold and used after it has cooled.

Characteristics of Flouropolymers

Flouropolymers are considered to be a difficult material for injection molding. They should only be handled by a professional with much experience in that area. Though they are difficult to mold, they have many advantages over other materials for injection molding.

One of the best advantages that this material offers is its fantastic resistance to chemicals. It is used in many different markets that may have exposure to chemicals. For instance, it is commonly used for water treatment, chemical pumps, and aerospace markets.

There are a few different types of flouropolymers. Two common types include Kynar and Hylar. They are also known as polyvinylidene fluoride, or PVDF.
