Thermoplastic Injection Molding

by Jill Morrison

Thermoplastic injection molding is a process used for manufacturing plastic parts. Thermoplastics can be manipulated and molded with use of heat. They are commonly used for injection molding which requires that materials be heated in order to mold them.

Thermoplastic Injection Molding Qualities

Thermoplastic injection molding begins when plastic pellets are melted. Once a liquid has formed, it can be injected into a specific mold design. After cooling, the plastic product may be removed from the mold.

Thermoplastic is a common material for injection molding because it is easy to work with and is also low in cost. The most expensive part of the injection molding process is use of the machines. The only way to save money on machines is by purchasing a micro-molding machine to make smaller products.

Design is an important factor in thermoplastic injection molding. You should make sure that the wall thickness is uniform; otherwise the product will be more like to break in the future. You may also want to use some angles and rounded corners in your design to minimize stress to the product during the process.
