Transparent Plastic

by Jill Morrison

Transparent plastic is often used for manufacturing parts. It is a desirable material because it is low in cost and is also versatile. Plastic is frequently used in the process of injection molding.

Injection Molding of Transparent Plastic

Injection molding is initiated when transparent plastic pellets are melted into liquid form. The liquid is then injected into a certain mold design. The plastic product may be removed from the mold after it has cooled.

The design in injection molding is an important element. You should round corners and use some angles in the design to minimize stress to the object upon removal from the mold. You should also make sure to create walls that are even in thickness so the product will remain durable over time.

There are many different types of transparent plastic materials to choose from. Some examples include polycarbonate, acrylic, nylon, ABS, PVC, polyester, and polyurethane. Depending on the product you are trying to create, you must choose the appropriate plastic material for injection molding.
