Lower Back Pain ReliefFour out of five adults will seek lower back pain relief at some point in their lives. Back pain can be triggered by a virtually unlimited number of causes: sports injuries, poor posture, genetics, or activities as ordinary as climbing a ladder or reaching to close a window. The type of pain you experience will depend on whether you have irritated the muscles, ligaments, nerves, or discs of your lumbar region. Something as minor as a slip or fall can tear or sprain your back muscles. The pain springs from the muscle inflammation following a tear or sprain. A lower backache can last anywhere from a day to three weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. Other Ways to Obtain Lower Back Pain ReliefStretching out the affected muscles gently is a good way of treating lower back pain. Stiff and sore muscles generally respond well to warmth, so a nightly soak in the tub should leave you relaxed and able to get a good night's pain-free rest. A stretch that often provides lower back pain relief is to lie flat on your back on the floor and slowly pull one knee up towards you, pressing your thigh against your chest. Stretches like that are very important; you don't want to become sedentary because of a back injury, no matter how long it lasts. Just like any other muscles, the muscles in your lumbar region will become out of shape and make it more difficult to get back into your day-to-day routine. Continued workouts will build up your lumbar muscles and make you less vulnerable to back pain in the future. ![]() Get all Restless Leg Syndrome articles via
