A common question that's asked regarding preventing heart disease and keeping cholesterol levels down is: "Are there foods to help lower cholesterol?" Happily, there are many types of food to help lower cholesterol. Any food that has a good amount of fiber for example, such as fresh fruits and vegetables will be a food that will lower your cholesterol.

Dried beans of all kinds and lentils are also good foods to help lower cholesterol, because they are low fat, high in protein and minerals, yet have almost no fat. Oats or oat bran (oatmeal) is a really great foods to help lower cholesterol. In addition to fiber, oats have a lot of vitamin E too. Eating only wholegrain breads and crackers will make sure you get the maximum amount of fiber as well as vitamins and minerals daily.

What Garlic Can Do

Raw garlic is a very important foods to help lower cholesterol. It has been known for some time that garlic can actually lower your cholesterol levels, but it can also help to remove plaque caused by high cholesterol levels from your arteries. Almonds, walnuts and avocados are also important when you're considering foods to help lower cholesterol. They contain very beneficial fats that will nourish your body without adding to the cholesterol burden.

Although the body makes its own cholesterol, the only sources of dietary cholesterol are meat eggs and dairy products. Keeping these to a minimum will reduce dietary intake of cholesterol. The fiber in the other foods we've recommended will make sure that your body absorbs as little cholesterol as possible from the foods you eat by speeding up the transition time for the food in your stomach.
