Indoor Exotic Plants

by Beth Hrusch

Indoor exotic plants add a touch of the wild tropical jungle to your home. They make your space feel warm and inviting, and they are great conversation pieces! Exotic plants are available at your florist where you can also find out what plants will do well in your home, and how to care for them.

Indoor Exotic Plants For Your Home

There are dozens of tropical plants that have become popular in recent years. They generally prefer warm, humid environments. This makes them ideal for display in a greenhouse or in south-facing windows where they can be kept out of drafts. Ginger, for example, prefers moist, shady areas and should be kept out of direct sunlight. However, some varieties don't mind the sun, and others attract bees and butterflies.

Some indoor exotic plants can be taken outside during warm months, and brought in before the frost. Bird of paradise is one of these. It produces abundant orange and red blooms with spiky foliage for a truly striking look. Flame trees come from Africa and are an ornamental tree that has red-orange tulip-shaped flowers that hold water. For an exotic plant that is also functional, try the bay tree or laurel. Its glossy green leaves can be dried to make tea.

Plants Add Character

Plants add warmth and interest to your indoor space. Exotic plants create a lush environment that will invite you and your guests to sit and enjoy. Try exotics for a look that is different from the ordinary. Make sure to get information on their proper care for best results. The time you spend on them will be rewarded by their beauty and unique character.
