What is Hawaiian Lomi Lomi?

This form of massage was until recently a practice that was handed down from generation to generation through families in Hawaii. Today, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is taught in schools throughout the world. The practitioner breathes in concert with the subject to create a spirit of oneness. Many practice a form of Tai Chi as they move around the table and work on the disconnected areas of the subject's body. They use breath, sound and movement to connect with each other in what many liken to a re-birthing experience.

Unlike standard massage, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is almost spiritual in nature. The practitioner attempts to channel loving energy to the subject in a sensual way that attempts to re-weave areas of the body that have become disconnected through life's stresses. They work together to facilitate a positive energy flow between them in ways that both heal the subject and sustain the practitioner throughout the long process. Many practitioners of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi work on the subject for very long periods of time. In fact, in earlier days the sessions would last for several days!
