Information On Sciatica

by Kevin Little

Information on sciatica, including treatment, can vary widely depending on the cause of the sciatica you're researching. Sciatica is most often caused by problems in the region of the lower back, which put pressure on the sciatic nerve. This is most commonly due to a slipped or ruptured disk.

However, sciatica can also be one of the consequences of diabetes. Diabetes often wreaks havoc on the nerves of the body, and the sciatic nerve is no exception. Since the the root cause is different in this case, the treatment will vary accordingly.

Information on Sciatica: Moving On

When the cause is excess pressure on the nerve, there are several options available for sciatica treatment. In mild cases, the condition can simply resolve itself; keeping as active as possible is key element of such a recovery. In more severe cases, surgery may be needed to relieve the pressure on the nerve.

Information on sciatica treatment differs, however, when the case involves diabetes. In such a case, regulating the blood's glucose levels are of the ultimate importance to minimize the damage to the nerve. Thiamine, or vitamin B-1, can also be effective in dealing with such nerve trouble.
