Sensory Motor Neuropathy

by Kevin Little

Sensory motor neuropathy is often confused with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), but the two conditions are not the same. While ALS cannot be cured, there are a number of treatments for motor neuropathy that can help patients to recover. When caught soon enough, the condition can be put in the past rather quickly.

Sensory motor neuropathy, for whatever reason, seems to affect men more than it does women. Most of those who get the disease are between twenty and seventy years of age. Be aware that the condition is also referred to as "mononeuropathy."

Sensory Motor Neuropathy Recovery

The symptoms of this condition are characterized by weakness in the hands, though arm and leg muscles may also be affected. The weakness and twitching symptoms are often more pronounced on one side of the body. Cramps and progressive weakening of muscles are present in more severe cases.

Luckily, this is one disorder which can be effectively treated. When the disease is diagnosed early, most patients recover fully, with few lingering side effects. Intravenous fluids, medications and as supplements designed to treat neuropathy can be effective measures for curing this ailment.
