How To Build A Pond Filter

If you want to know how to build a pond filter of your own, there is a wealth of information available on the Internet. Many websites offer diagrams, fully documented lists of materials needed, and step by step instructions. There are some basics, however, that will be important to know before getting started.

How to Build a Pond Filter: The Essentials

A filter is not really a very complicated device. All a filter needs to be is a water storage device, like a bucket, that water will flow into and that will come back out of again. A pump, which can be easily purchased at hardware or pet stores that specialize in fish, will suck water into the storage container and send it back out again through simple pipes that can be installed in the bucket. (Or whatever is being used.)

The water that passes through the water storage container should be filled with some kind of material that will act as a filter. Bio-fill is a simple, ribbon like material that look likes packing confetti that can let water pass through it while grabbing solid materials you are trying to get rid of. The clean water then gets sent back out into the pond through one of the pipes.

The Long and Short of It

The procedure described above is one very simple method on how to build a pond filter. Again, many websites offer detailed plans and blueprints. Keep in mind, however, that simplicity is sometimes the best way to go. Why over-complicate things when something simple is just as effective?
