Brazing Equipment

by Patricia Tunstall

Induction heating has such a variety of uses--from portable induction heaters to automated lines of production in steel plants--that more configurations are still being manufactured. In addition, induction heating equipment is often customized to conform to the unique needs of a business or industry. Brazing equipment is also made for many different situations.

Safe Machinery

Brazing is done at high temperatures. Because induction equipment has no open flames and no waste emissions, these present no hazard to the operator. There is no danger from hot surfaces or chemical solutions. Induction heating equipment is self-contained and relies on the interaction between electricity and magnetism.

Clean, Precise Joints With Brazing Equipment

Typically, brazing equipment is used on brass parts. Because of spot control of heating, and accurate control of temperature, induction brazing equipment produces clean joints in which distortion and oxidation are minimized. With increased quality comes less time spent cleaning joints after the process, and less scrap.

Versatility of Units

Many small units are suited to both brazing and soldering and so have a range of power and frequencies. Even bench top models are quite versatile, having perhaps 3.0 kW of power and the capability of operating at high frequencies. Induction equipment is endlessly adaptable: power supplies can be positioned separately from heating heads; infrared temperature controls can be attached; wire feed systems can be operated by timer or temperature control.
