Healthy Cat Food

by Kathleen Gagne

Find Healthy Cat Food Online

Because I have a cat and a half, I'm very interested in what makes healthy cat food and how buying that food can affect my cats' longevity. I want them with me a long, long time. Fortunately, there are several great brands of cat food available on the Internet. Finding the right one isn't all that hard. As with any food, for humans or pets, the key to a healthy food is to start out with the highest quality ingredients.

So which ingredients are healthiest for your cats? Cat food must contain more meat protein than dog food. You should look for quality cat food that is manufactured under strictly controlled conditions that make the food more easily digestible. As with healthy dog food, a good place to start is with chicken or lamb meal. When the flesh from those two animal sources is reduced into meal, the result is that your cat will be able to utilize the food's nutrients more efficiently.

Why Chicken and Lamb Meal?

Healthy cat food almost always starts out with one of these two ingredients. One reason is that the amino acids to be found in them are the basic building blocks of muscle, healthy skin, shiny coat, and even an enhanced immune system. In addition, quality chicken meal provides an essential amino acid called Taurine that is vital to cats' eyes, heart, nervous, and reproductive systems.

Healthy food for your cats must also include a fat source. Ethoxyquin, preserved with natural vitamin E, provides a good source of energy and includes essential building blocks for cells, hormones, and enzymes. To help reduce Feline Urological Syndrome (FUS), you should look for cat foods that indicate the inclusion of 4.5% or less of ash and .08% of Magnesium. This combination promotes the low urinary pH that helps prevent FUS. Check out online websites that offer healthy food options to see which combinations and prices work best for you and your cats. You'll notice the difference.
