Wellness Pet Foods

Brand Name Pet Foods - Toxic?

Pet foods generally come in two forms, kibble and canned. The problem with the brand name and store brand pet foods we have been buying for years is that they are manufactured like most fast food by industry giants who are ignoring what is happening to domestic pets. One thing that is happening all too frequently is that our pets now evidence dozens of diseases and infirmities that were virtually non existent in them a few decades ago. Canned and bagged pet foods are convenience foods, but they are also shortening our pets' lives to the extent that many breeds live half as long as they did in the past.

Many veterinarians now believe that brand name foods suppress animals' immune systems. Some of this may be due to cooking and extensive processing that was never a part of their diets until after World War II. Another issue is the number of pet foods that now include soy or soy protein as their main ingredient. Dogs and, especially, cats need protein they can only get from meat. When you add to that by-products such as chicken feet, beaks, and intestines, and artificial dyes and preservatives, it's no wonder that our pets a living shorter lives.
