Holistic Pet Food

by Kathleen Gagne

What is Holistic Pet Food?

In holistic pet food you will find chicken that was not given hormones or steroids to promote growth. Fish is farm raised to avoid the contaminants that exist in the oceans today. The raw meats are converted into chicken, turkey, fish, lamb, and liver meal that are very high quality. All ingredients are natural. The food products contained in holistic foods are human grade. In addition to animal protein, these foods also include fruits, vegetables, and grape seed extract. Natural antioxidants and friendly bacteria are also added.

In holistic foods for your pet, you will not find animal by-products, such as bird beaks or cow tongues, that are commonly used in store and major brands. Since most major brand pet foods are manufactured by conglomerates that also manufacture human food, much of what is thrown away in the human process ends up in pet foods. These products are often referred to as the 4Ds in pet food, animal by-products from dead, diseased, dying, and disabled animals. In addition, popular brand dog foods often contain the remains of euthanized cats and dogs!

Finding Holistic Pet Food Online

Now that you have an idea of the kinds of pet foods that can enhance your pet's daily life and even extend it, you should know that you will find a number of options online that will provide your pet with the wholesome and healthy nutrition he needs. As with any major food source, you should always check out the ingredients list on products you purchase. Note that you can shop for great holistic foods for your pets from the comfort of your own home and that you can compare several brands and websites in less time than it might take to go to one pet food store.

When you're comparing the prices of holistic foods, be sure to get to the comparison that details cost per feeding. You will find that, though some of these foods appear to cost significantly more, they actually provide your pet with more nutrition in smaller quantities of food. This means that a bag of holistic food may last up to twice as long as a bag you buy in the grocery store. Basically, you will not be spending much more money; you may be able to avoid vet visits; your pet's quality of life will improve; and you will feel better knowing that you are giving your pet the best food available.
