Silvics of North America is a two-volume publication that describes roughly 200 different types of trees that are native to the forests of the United States. The first volume covers conifers and the second volume covers hardwoods. Like many government publications this set is the result of years of research and study by scientists, scholars and Forest Service specialists. This set was original published in 1965, and has been updated a number of times over the years leading to the publication of the current two-volume set.

Silvics of North America is an amazing study guide that is can be used to teach students about forestry. It is also an incredibly handy reference tool for researchers in a number of different fields.
