Unfortunately, there are not a lot of publishers of poetry out there. There just isn't that large of a market for poetry books, and consequently, publishers have shifted their focus to more profitable genres. There are a number of publishing companies, however, that can assist you in self publishing a collection of poetry.

Self publishing, not to be confused with vanity publishing, is actually very respected in the poetry world. Self publishing means you will retain the rights to your work. A lot of very well-known poets choose to self publish in order to maintain complete control over their work and to make the most profit possible. Poetry is not generally very profitable, so maximizing the royalties is essential to making any money at all.

Types of Poetry Self Publishing Companies

You can find some companies online that can help you self publish. There are basically two ways to self publish poetry. You can hire a company to only handle the printing of the book for a fee. In this case, you will have to do all of the other things that go into publishing yourself. This includes designing the book, commissioning any illustrations, distributing the book, and marketing the book.

You can also choose to work with a company that offers more publishing services. Some companies will handle the other things that go into publishing, and they will pay you a royalty based on how many books sell. You will have to pay for the production costs up front, and the additional services will cost extra. Deciding how to self publish depends on how much you think you can do on your own and what audience you would like for your poetry book.
