When shopping for embroidery designs, it's important to know which stitches are required. If you are new to hand embroidery, you'll want to stick to embroidery designs which utilize only one or two different stitches. More advanced embroiderers can feel free to try their hand at a number of different stitches.

Embroidery Designs and Samplers

If you are just learning how to embroider, you might want to work on a sampler. Samplers are great learning tools. With the help of samplers, you can practice several different stitches, working on the basics of the stitch by keeping the design simple. Once you are done stitching the alphabet, numbers, and simple designs into the sampler, you'll be an expert at the stitches it requires.

Beyond knowing which stitches are required, your only constraints for choosing embroidery designs are size and taste. Choose a design that is the right size for the amount of time you have to give it. If you don't take time into account, you might end up with a lot of half-finished projects around the house.

Exercising your taste and imagination is the fun part of choosing a design. Pick a design that will celebrate your pet, or favorite animal. Choose a design that reflects one of your hobbies. You can pick a design of a funny or touching saying. If you can picture it, chances are there's an embroidery design for it!
