The type of embroidery supplies you will need depends on your level of expertise, and the type of project you are about to tackle. If you are a beginner, you will need all the basic embroidery supplies. These basics include your pattern, or a book of patterns. They also include hand embroidery threads or floss, your needle, hoop, and fabric.

If you are just starting out, a hand embroidery video will be among your most important embroidery supplies. Videos are a fabulous and inexpensive way to learn everything, from the basics to complicated stitches. If you used to know how to embroider, but haven't given it a try since you were a kid, check out one of these videos for a much-needed refresher course.

Embroidery Supplies: The Variety of Patterns

Once you have all the basics, you'll want to spend some time checking out all the cool patterns available online. You can find patterns for just about anything! One of my favorites that I saw recently was an embroidery pattern of the astrological zodiac. I thought, what an interesting subject for an embroidered wall hanging!

If you are a beginner, or are brushing up your rusty old skills, consider starting out with a sampler. A sampler is a great way to learn or re-learn a host of different stitches, on an easy pattern. Samplers also look terrific. You'll be as proud to hang one in your kitchen as you would be to hang a much more advanced piece.
