Coming up with scrapbooking layout ideas can be both fun and frustrating. You want a layout that will best show off your photos and you want a layout that is unique. How many of us feel as if we rely on the same few layouts all the time? I know I do. Then, when you finally get fed up with the ones you have been using, you sit there, staring at your page, wracking your brain trying to create something new.

Sometimes you can come up with new scrapbooking layout ideas just by using the photos that you have. Other times, you will probably need to look through a book or search online. When you want to use the photos for inspiration, look at them closely and see if there is anything in particular that stands out. A succession of photos lends itself to certain scrapbooking layout ideas.

For an example, I made a scrapbook for a friend of mine. He had his birthday party on his houseboat. At one point during the day, everyone decided to jump off the boat at the same time. I, however, took my camera and a tube and paddled away from the boat a bit. Then, I took about four very quick photos as they jumped. In my scrapbook, I used two pages side by side. I put a title, and then placed each photo next to each other.

In some instances, you just want to showcase one main photo on a page. I love accents and decorations, so these kinds of pages are my favorite. If you have one photo and a story to go with it, try this suggestion. Make the background one solid color. Then put a strip of paper, border or string down the page about two inches in from the side. Put another strip of the same material across the page about one inch up from the bottom, making sure they intersect. Use the space you have created on the left for the story, use the space on the right for the photo, and frame the photo any way you wish.
