Interviewing New York event photographers can be intimidating and overwhelming, but it pays to take your time. When it comes to capturing special occasions on film, you don't get a second chance to get it right. Thus, it's imperative that you take your time and choose wisely at the start.

There are many ways to go about finding a photographer. You can use online directories, consult with friends and families, or use one of many event-planning resources. Whatever your strategy, however, you should be prepared to spend a fair amount of time interviewing candidates and reviewing portfolios.

Conducting the Interview

If you are new to event planning, the process of interviewing a photographer may seem particularly intimidating. It's hard to know what to ask and which criteria to emphasize when making a decision. Although considerations will vary with your specific needs, there are a few things that should always be taken into consideration.

The most important consideration is actually quite intuitive. You should focus on the candidate's personality and interpersonal skills and how they mesh with your own. You want someone with whom you can communicate openly and easily, and you should trust your gut when evaluating someone during an interview. If it doesn't feel right, don't waste time hashing out the details of your event. Move on quickly and look for a better fit.
