Online Portfolio

An online portfolio is a great way to assess a photographer. Whether you are looking for a portrait artist, commercial photographer, landscape photographer, or event photographer, you should be able to view samples online by the artists with whom you are considering working. In many cases, with photographers who work in many realms, their portfolios will be conveniently separated into the different types of pictures they take.

Information in an Online Portfolio

If it is of interest to you, you should also be able to find out information about what kind of equipment a photographer uses on their website. There are also likely to be client testimonials from individuals or companies who have used that photographer. You can also find out other information such as where the photographer studied, awards they have won, or information about and links to published work if they have been featured in print ads or taken photographs for corporate brochures.

One thing that you should bear in mind, however, is how the images in an online portfolio were first taken. In some cases, if the photographs were taken digitally, the quality online will most accurately reflect the actual photographs. If the pictures were taken on film, printed, and then scanned, however, the online version will not show the nuances to perfection.

An online portfolio is also a great way to coordinate the search for a photographer with business associates or family members who are not located in the same place. If you browse online portfolios and compare notes about what you like and dislike, that can narrow your search. A quick internet search should lead you to options of photographers in your area and price range who specialize in the kind of photography you need.
