Black Light Posters

Black light posters became all the rage in the late sixties. It was discovered that black light put a new perspective on art--adding a fluorescent glow to the room. White T-shirts and teeth would light up the room with their bright white glow. Black lights would reveal secret symbols or slogans on posters located in college dorm rooms.

These lights also appeared in nightclubs and theater productions around the country, creating a sort of surreal atmosphere. Coupled with a strobe light, black lights created a disorienting purple haze. You can only imagine why they were so popular in the sixties, a time of personal expression and exploration.

Today, you can still find these black lights in nightclubs. There are more fluorescent materials on the market--paints, dyes, clothes, markers--that come to life with the existence of the black light. This is why black light posters are still selling today, because they create an eccentric appearance in what otherwise would be basic poster art.
