Film Posters

Film posters were once simply a tool for promoting movies. Then people became movie junkies, and the posters became almost as popular as the films themselves. Rare original movie posters can sell for a pretty penny these days, but if you're just a casual fan, the good news is you can always buy a reprint for not much money at all.

Where Film Posters Go to Hide

Film posters used to be hard to find. Whenever I was in the market, I'd have to make a special trip to a poster shop downtown, and even then I wasn't guaranteed to get what I was looking for. Nowadays, you can log on to any of the hundreds of poster websites on the Internet, and find what you're looking for in a matter of seconds.

While it's a bit sad that the local poster guy is probably being forced out of business by the Internet, the upside is that you can now find pretty much anything you want at any time, and at surprisingly low cost. The people that manufacture film posters don't have to worry about guessing what's going to sell--with the Web, it's a lot easier for them to produce on demand.

My favorite movie posters are those giant-sized ones printed on paper so thick it's almost tough to roll up. The high-quality paper (and of course the impressive size) makes them a wonderful candidate for framing. Putting a good quality movie poster in a nice glass frame can turn a cheap, casual decoration into something truly special.
