Limited edition posters are a luxury you can probably afford, even if your means are relatively modest and preclude buying original art works. They can make a great investment, if you plan to take good care of the prints you buy. They can also make for great conversation pieces, if you like decorating your home or your office with controversial fine art.

Often, unless you are a regular attendee of museums of galleries, you wouldn't even know what limited edition posters are available. Generally speaking, people don't just go out specifically looking for limited edition artwork, but rather happen across it in pursuit of works by an artist they love. It can be exhilarating to know that you are one of only a handful of people who own a copy or a particular version of the work, as opposed to one of several million people who have exactly the same Kurt Cobain poster or Monet print.

Limited Edition Posters from Museum Tours

Often when the most famous and beloved classic works of art go on a tour of museums around the country or around the world, the traveling exhibit will be accompanied by limited edition posters. Sometimes buying the poster can commemorate your first viewing of a work that you want never to forget. Other times, you can be making a savvy decision as a collector to purchase an item that will appreciate in value over time.

If you are really lucky and like modern art, you may be able to find signed limited edition prints. Often the more successful modern painters and photographers will release a limited number of signed prints of their popular works, and these are likely to make the most dramatic leaps in value over time. Furthermore, nothing beats being able to prove that you saw something first, when it comes to a work that you did truly see and appreciate before others got a chance to get to know it.
