Christmas Quilts

In my family, Christmas is a large and important affair. Each year, we try to outdo each other by purchasing or creating the most outrageous gifts for the least amount of money. We take the yuletide motto, "it's the thought that counts," very seriously. If your family is anything like mine, you know how difficult it can be to come up with creative presents, year after year. This holiday season, why not consider a personalized Christmas quilt?

Patchwork Christmas Gifts

A Christmas quilt can range from a simple red and green pattern to an intricate design featuring Rudolph and his eight reindeer friends. If you are an expert in the art of quilting, you may choose to create one of these seasonal designs. If you have never held a needle in your hand, but the idea still intrigues you, there are many companies that sell these special holiday quilts.

Christmas is also a time for emphasizing family togetherness. Many families have traditions involving cookie baking or who puts the star at the top of the tree. This year, why not consider starting a new tradition by creating a family quilt?

Each year, during the holidays, every member of the family can supply a few pieces of fabric. Pieces can have written memories, pictures, or simply be from a favorite shirt. The year is written upon each piece and they are stitched together. The pieces will grow with each passing year until the final product is large enough to be quilted. If no one in your family wants to attempt the quilting process, there are companies that will finish quilts, for a fee. The finished product can then be given as a gift, each year, to a different family member, making the memories last for years to come.
