Quilt kits are available which allow the quilter to follow a specific pattern to create a designer quilt. In quilt kits, the quilting fabric is included along with the quilting pattern. Usually borders, binding and backing are available also, sometimes for an additional price.

Advantages of a Quilt Kit

For beginning quilting, a kit is often the best way to start. Specific instructions will guide you through the toughest areas for the beginner. Often cutting the fabric can be confusing if you've never done it before, as well as constructing your first block. Your kit will guide you with pictures and diagrams through these two problem areas.

For the more experienced quilter, a kit can provide a different kind of enjoyment. These kits are put out by fabric designers, such as Lynette Jensen at Thimbleberries. Their designs are original and charming, and for the veteran quiltmaker, it results in a distinctive modern heirloom quilt.

These kits are available from many top fabric studios, such as Woodrow Studio and Maywood Studio. Kits are also available which recreate traditional and colonial America patterns, such as the Seven-Pointed Star and Hearts and Flowers. There are also kits available for specialty quilts such as baby quilts and designer wall hangings.
