Job Vacancies

While we would all be delighted if all available jobs in the country were posted in a central location to facilitate job searching online, that is unlikely to happen. The fact remains that many open positions are never advertised. Companies may attempt to fill job vacancies internally, since promoting someone and eliminating the position they once held can help cut costs and ensure that you end up with an employee you like.

Using Your Contacts

If you are looking for job vacancies, you might want to start with any business cards that you have collected over the years. If your position with your previous employer gave you a high degree of visibility, you may have had the opportunity to network with employees at other companies. You can benefit from this by contacting those people first, as they may be able to give you an early notice of available jobs.

Perusing the Internet may help you find job vacancies from companies' websites. The downside to searching there is that you will only find listings for companies that have websites and list positions online. While you might find out that there are a few openings at big name corporations, you might also miss out on all the openings with smaller employers.

Some of these listings may be present on websites that contain postings from several employers. On these sites, you may be able to upload your resume to use it to apply for several jobs. This can cut down on the time needed to complete applications, allowing you to search further for additional vacancies.
