Cancer Car Donations

Charities that work to help the victims of cancer and help to fund research into finding a cure are some of the best-funded charities around. This is because cancer touches so many lives and it becomes so personal to so many people. Since so many people want to give and since vehicles make such great donations, cancer charities will very often have streamlined systems to make the processing of those donations short, simple, and financially viable.

Processing a car donation generates several fees along the way and requires a considerable investment of time and staff that charities usually cannot spare. Larger charities may keep a small staff on hand to handle these matters but the trend has been to hire an outside processing company. Some of these companies work exclusively with charities. Higher fees mean less money for the charity, so feel free to call and inquire about their processing strategy and the associated fees.

People also always have questions about tax deductions from the charitable donation of a car. Your local tax professional is the best source for answers to those questions but you are generally allowed to deduct the full fair-market value of the vehicle at the time it was donated. You may be able to deduct any work you have done to the car immediately prior to donation but you should definitely consult with your tax professional before doing so.

Choosing the Charity that Will Receive Your Car Donation

There are many organizations directly involved with cancer research or with providing assistance to people with cancer. Take some time to research a few charities and see what specifically they do. Then you can choose to which organization you most want to give your donation. Cancer charities are almost all worthy but the unfortunate fact is that there are a few bad apples that spend more on administration and salaries than they spend on charitable work.
