When it comes to claiming a charitable donation on your taxes, it's important to fill out all the necessary forms. No matter if you donate something as simple as a bag full of old clothes or you donate an older vehicle, you need to fill out these forms in order to comply with federal tax laws. Most organizations provide you with a list of applicable tax forms, as well as copies of receipts, title transfers, and other official documentation.

When you give cash or goods to charitable organizations, you are rewarded with a tax deduction. If you want to avoid audits or other legal investigations, you simply can't afford not to keep accurate and detailed records of all your transactions. Another helpful guide is IRS publication 526, Charitable Contributions. This document provides guidelines for itemizing your charity deductions on your tax return.
