If you conduct your search online, you will have even more manufacturers to choose from, so you can be confident that finding an engine in the first place will not be a challenge. Before you begin your search, however, you should have a very specific idea of the type of engine you're looking for.

What Identifies a Rebuilt Diesel Engine?

With any rebuilt diesel engine you find, you will also find a few distinguishing attributes. For example, a rebuilt engine will have been simply reconditioned through a cleaning and inspection process that will lead to a replacement of severely worn or broken parts, and a simple reuse of any serviceable parts that still meet the manufacturer's acceptable wear limits. Your other option, that you might not be aware of, is to replace your old diesel engine with a remanufactured engine. The engine in this case will have been broken down all the way to the core, which is checked against original equipment specifications. All old parts are then replaced with new ones that have been designed according to original production techniques, the engine is completely reassembled, and is rigorously tested against OEM specifications. Essentially, this is an engine that has received quite the upgrade.
