Porsche 944 parts are available to breath new life into the fantastic front-engine liquid-cooled entry-level Porsche of the 1980s. The Porsche 944 was an evolution of the 924 which was developed in the 70s in collaboration with Audi. Audi left the car to Porsche and the 924 was born.

The Porsche 924, 944, and eventually the 968 all shared a unique drive train system with a longitudinally-mounted four-cylinder engine and clutch in the front of the car with the transmission mounted at the rear transaxle, driving the rear wheels via a stiff "torque tube." This unconventional layout gave the cars nearly perfect weight distribution and the 944 was widely acclaimed as the best-handling car available during its lifespan.

The "transaxle" Porsche 944 and 968 models dispensed with the Audi four-pot that powered the 924 and were given a big four-cylinder that was in effect one half of the expensive Porsche 928's V-8 unit. Suddenly, the Porsche 944 was a formidable contender. Unique Porsche 944 parts include parts for the big four-cylinder engine, the "torque tube" transaxle set up, suspension parts, and accessories for the 944's excellent interior.

Porsche 944 Parts Are Different from the Others

The Porsche 944 and 928 engines were radical departures from the previous air-cooled four and six-cylinder Porsche engines. However, Porsche 944 parts are available through the same Porsche-specific parts suppliers that offer parts for other Porsche models. Most Porsche parts websites offer a specific section for each model where you can find precisely the part you need.
