The Loudon Valley wine country is just minutes away from bustling Dulles International Airport, but it is miles away in terms of its setting, with its peaceful, rolling hills and serene valleys. In less than 25 years, the Loudon Valley wineries have emerged as the leading Virginian producers of new world (Vinifera) grapes. Its temperate climate, prime soil conditions, and expert wine makers all contribute to this excellence.

Loudon County Wineries

Loudon County is the heart of Virginia's horse country. Picturesque estates with stone fences, stables, and barns dot the countryside here. Intermixed with the horse farms are wineries (mostly country estates where the owner helps pour wine in the tasting room). The major towns in Loudon County are Leesburg, Middleburg, and Waterford, all gracious, Southern towns alive with foxhunts, steeplechases, and wine.

Sample Chambourcin, a white wine made from Native American grapes at Tarara Vineyard and Winery in Leesburg. Just down the road, sip Chardonnay and 14 other award-winning wines crafted by Loudon Valley Vineyards. Continue on to Hillsborough Vineyards and wonder at the "million dollar view" of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Several companies offer tours of the Loudon County wine country by limousine. Sit back and let your chauffeur guide you from one winery to the next. One call to a limousine company can take care of romantic bed and breakfast accommodations, special lunch and dinner reservations, and a personalized tour of your favorite winery.
