Cheap Motorcycle Insurance

Finding cheap motorcycle insurance is often difficult for riders and enthusiasts. The reason for this is twofold. Insurance companies tend to raise rates for motorcyclists because their machines do not offer the protection of an automobile in the event of an accident, and because the open nature of motorcycles leaves them more open to damage, vandalism, and sometimes theft.

Tips for Finding Cheap Motorcycle Insurance

If you are looking for cheap motorcycle insurance, the most important thing to do is to shop around. You might want to check out insurance brokers, who buy policies in bulk and are therefore able to give less expensive rates. If you do decide to go with a broker, be sure the company is financially stable so that you won't lose your policy when you need it most. There are a number of companies that specialize in rating the financial stability of insurance brokers that can give you information on your chosen broker.

If the cheapest rate you've found still isn't cheap enough, there are a few steps you can take to lower your rate a bit more. First of all, be sure that you haven't over-insured yourself. You'll never get more than the market value of your bike, so don't purchase a policy worth $30,000 if your bike is only worth $15,000.

Many insurance agencies will offer discounts to customers who take steps to reduce their (and therefore their insurer's) risk. Garaging or securing your bike with an alarm system or lock can reduce the risk of theft or vandalism and earn you one of these discounts. Also, many insurance agencies offer discounts to customers who are willing to take a motorcycle safety course at their local DMV.
