Wedding Gown Preservation

Proper wedding gown preservation relies on careful adherence to cleaning and storage procedures. These steps are not as easy as you might think, and thus, require some on-the-spot education. Talk to friends, family, and wedding consultants about the best way to ensure that your gown stands the test of time.

Take a moment to consider just how much work you put into choosing that gown. Recall, if you will, the countless dresses you tried on, the numerous shopping trips you endured, and the endless string of opinions you solicited while making your decision. After all of that work, doesn't it make sense to expend the same effort ensuring that your gown is properly preserved?

Safe and Sound

It is easy to keep your dress safe from damage if you follow a few steps at the outset. First, you will want to make sure that your dress has been thoroughly cleaned by an experienced dry cleaner. Use word of mouth referrals from friends and family to point you in the right direction, or call local wedding planners and ask for their picks.

Once your gown has been cleaned, you will need to find a safe way to store it. There are many techniques for gown preservation, but most people recommend wrapping a dress in acid-free tissue that will protect it from moths and the elements. You can then choose to place the dress in a box or to leave it hanging in a proper dress bag. Either method should suffice, provided you execute it properly.
