Organic Lecithin

Organic lecithin has been associated with a number of health benefits. Among them is weight loss, as lecithin is thought to have powerful fat-burning properties. Its fat-burning powers are derived from a substance contained within lecithin, called choline, which helps the body to digest fats. Choline is believed to increase fat metabolism (the rate at which fat is burned) while at the same time decreasing cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

Thus lecithin is also credited with decreasing the risk of heart disease, as well as strokes. Choline is also linked to improvement in mental function, especially memory-related issues. Lecithin is an important ingredient of cell membranes; due to its fatty nature, cell walls remain supple and healthy, rather than hard and impenetrable. However, with a lecithin deficiency, cell membrane hardening can occur, severely impeding cellular nutrition and function. This explains lecithin's inclusion in sophisticated skin-care formulas designed to combat everything from sagging skin to cellulite.

Many people want to know the difference between organic lecithin and regular lecithin. Basically, organic lecithin assures you with its name that the products from which the lecithin is derived--usually soybeans--were grown and produced without any synthetic chemical additives, throughout the entire life cycle of the plant. This implies chemical-free soil, pure water, and chemical-free processing.

Organic growing standards also reject any sort of genetic engineering or growth hormone technology as scientific interference with the wholesomeness of natural foods. Besides some studies that have shown adverse effects of these technologies, the truth is that their long-term effects are unknown. With modern history replete with horrendous consequences of chemical meddling in our food and water, the organic ethic remains strong: "If it's not broken, don't fix it."
