Men's dance shoes serve the same purpose as women's dance shoes. They are designed to enhance the performance of different dance styles. These styles may include jazz, ballet, tap, character, ballroom, and hip hop. Dance shoes are available for men, women, girls, and boys at dance wear stores and on the Internet. Though some styles are different, many of the dance shoes available have the same design for men and women.

Comparing Men's Dance Shoes to Women's Dance Shoes

Most men's dance shoes are the same as women's dance shoes, except in larger sizes. This is especially true for jazz and tap shoe styles. Whether dance shoes are flexible, sturdy, or are a dance sneaker style, they are typically designed the same for both sexes. Men's and women's dance shoes are also available in the same colors, with black and tan being the two most popular choices.

Men's ballet shoes are the primary exception to the rule that men's and women's dance shoes are designed the same. Men's ballet shoes are different from women's ballet slippers because they are shaped to fit a man's foot. They are also higher on the sides to prevent the ballet shoes from slipping off of men's feet. This is an important feature because many men will not add elastics to shoes as most women would to prevent shoes from slipping off.

Men's dance shoes are typically available in the same colors and materials as women's dance shoes. Most of the shoes are made from either leather or canvas. Some may feature performance-enhancing materials such as Gore-Tex or Lycra. Though most styles of men's shoes are available in the same colors as women's shoes, men's ballet shoes are not available in pink or peach. Men's ballet shoes are typically either black or white in color.
