Hot Tools® is a registered trademark of Helen of Troy Limited. Hot Tools designs and manufactures a complete line of handheld beauty appliances. This includes several different curling irons and of course their very affordable flat irons.

On their website, Hot Tools lists 18 different flat irons that are available for sale. These flat irons can be purchased with either gold toned plates or with the extremely popular ceramic plates. Of course all these choices might lead you to wonder what the differences between the two are and exactly which one is best for you.

Experts Prefer Ceramics

Well most beauty experts agree that no matter what type of hair you have, the ceramic flat iron is the better option. The main reason they feel this way is because ceramics emit negative ions, which push moisture down into the hair and then subsequently lock the cuticle to prevent the moisture from escaping. This process allows the hair to repel humidity and virtually eliminates the occurrence of frizzy hair.

As opposed to the thermal heat imparted by conventional flat irons, the Hot Tools ceramic flat irons emit far-infrared heat. This type of heat penetrates the hair much faster, thereby shortening the styling time. The plates on the Hot Tools ceramic flat irons range in size from half an inch to three inches and retails for about $40 to $60.
