Black Lingerie

Black is the quintessential lingerie color. We associate black with the night, leather, motorcycles and other typical "bad" items. Lingerie is about what it's covering up, not what it's showing. Many people get this confused. Yes, lingerie is revealing. However, it's at the peak of sexy when it covers up all the intriguing things almost perfectly. Lingerie should lend curiosity to the mind, not give away the ending before the book begins.

Ever since the times of ancient Greece, people have been concerned with the look of the female silhouette. Throughout the ages, it has been desirable to be full-figured as well as boyish in frame. What's "in" has done a ping-pong effect between the two. Currently, we are somewhere in between. The look is busty with a round rear, but hips are staying somewhat slim.

We can look in many fashion magazines and see the extreme on both ends, though. There are women who look like their bodies never went through puberty. Others are full-figured and loving it. Black is a popular color also for its wonderful slimming effects. I don't know why it works, but it does.

The Current Trend of Lingerie

If you are one of the many fans of black lingerie, be happy you weren't around some 70 or 80 years ago. It wasn't until the 1920s that lingerie was any other color than white. Even then it only made a slight shift to light pastels. These lighter colors were flocked to by women, eventually leading to the deeper shades we have now.
