Fishnet StockingsWritten by Rachel Arieff Fishnet stockings are probably one of the best known and most popular type of stocking on the market. However, many people may not be aware of the variety available within the category of "fishnet stockings." This includes not just different types of fishnet construction, but also different types of hosiery, such as fishnet pantyhose, freestanding "hold-up" stockings, and even tights. To elaborate on just the types of fishnet material available, we have a wide range of choices. Among them are classic and mock fishnet, fence net, and diamond net knits. Classic fishnet is very small in size, while fence net is much larger, actually resembling that of a chain-link fence. Diamond net, a size in between fishnet and fence net, is popular for its three-dimensional look. Variety in Fishnet StockingsMock fishnet is not made of netted material, but rather a smooth material with a net-like design sewn or imprinted on the surface. All of the above-mentioned materials can be found in lace top stockings and hold-ups, pantyhose, and tights. However, some differences do exist in the possibilities of these materials. For instance, because fishnet is a small net, it can be sewn into fully fashioned stockings, complete with the welted back seam, doubled-over top welt, and finishing hole. This option is not available to the much larger fence net material, for the obvious reason that there simply isn't enough material available. Regarding size, choices vary widely depending on the particular stocking and brand. Some fishnet hosiery is available in one size only, while others are available in all sizes, from petite to plus.
