Adult acne can be both painful and embarrassing. In some cases, adults experience even worse acne problems than teenagers; they can be confused as to its causes and feel that they have no one to talk to about it. Luckily, in addition to a finding a good dermatologist, you can find information about adult acne and possible treatments online.

Acne can be caused by a number of very different factors. Stress is a big problem for both health and beauty, and one possible result of stress is an outbreak of acne. Skin-clogging bacteria and oily skin are also problems which lead to acne.

If you can manage some of the emotional and environmental issues which cause acne, science can do its share to take care of the rest. In addition to the simple benzoyl-peroxide and salicylic acid products that you can buy at any store, there are much more effective products available from upscale retailers and laboratories. Anti-bacterial products and sebum inhibitors are quite effective if used properly, and can make great strides in clearing up adult acne.

Treating Adult Acne

Often acne treatments work in part by drying out the skin. You should bear in mind that when an acne treatment begins to work, there may be a period of adjustment during which you experience redness that comes from dry skin, and the final results of an acne treatment will not be discernable for some interval of time, from a few weeks to a couple of months. While it is hard to be patient, know that there are ways of getting help beyond what you see in general television commercials, so understanding the cause of your acne problem and seeking help can change the way you feel physically as well as the way you feel about yourself.
