The variety of anti-aging skin care products on the market today is truly astonishing. As baby boomers age and younger people demand preventive products, the market will only continue to grow. Here are some guidelines to help you choose the anti-aging skin care products that are right for you.

Anti-Aging Skin Care Products for Younger Skin

Protection is the most important thing you can do for your skin when you are in your teens, twenties and thirties. Studies estimate that eighty percent of all skin imperfections are caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays. Therefore, everyone who wants to keep their skin looking young and healthy should use a sunscreen daily. If you want to keep your routine simple, look for cosmetics such as foundations that include sunscreen.

Older skin needs moisture. A good routine is to use a rich cream around the eyes and a lighter lotion on the rest of the face for daytime, then a heavier cream for both overnight. Younger people, too, should moisturize, at least around the eyes, even if you have oily skin. Check to be sure the product you choose does not contain petroleum products such as mineral oil, which can clog pores.

Exfoliants are anti-aging skin care products that have appeared widely in the last few years. These products gently scour away the top layer of dead cells on the surface of your skin. For those with oily skin, exfoliating once a week may help prevent clogged pores and acne. Older skin looks dull as a result of dead cells on the surface, so exfoliants brighten and tighten the complexion. Don't use them too enthusiastically until you know how sensitive you skin might be, and be sure to follow with a moisturizer.
