Healthy Skin

Healthy skin is more important than just making us look beautiful. We don't often think about the skin when considering our degree of healthiness, but the reality is that this can be a fatal mistake. Our skin is our protective layer--the thing that stands between the dangers of the outside world and our inner health, and we need to treat it with the respect it deserves if we want to consider ourselves truly healthy.

Maintaining Healthy Skin

We often look at the sun as one of our best friends in nature (it makes life possible, after all), but it can also be one of our most dangerous enemies. Our skin does everything it can to protect us from dangerous UV rays, but if we keep ourselves exposed to the sun too much we can still harm ourselves. Skin cancer rates are on the rise, particularly since we've begun destroying the ozone layer with our thoughtless use of CFC gases.

In addition to avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun, it's always a good idea to use sunscreen when you're going to be outside for a long period of time. This will allow you to tan at a safer rate, and will help you maintain your healthy skin while still improving your look. Pay attention to your skin type when choosing sun lotion--this will allow you to find a happy medium between safe and tan.

Our skin is also subject to less serious threats, like rashes, diseases and breakouts. Healthy skin is skin free from all of these problems, and the best way to achieve this state is to maintain a careful relationship with your skin. Keep it clean, exfoliate as often as possible, and try to avoid creams or soaps that might give you an allergic reaction.
