Pigmentation treatments are available for those people who have problems with unwanted lightening or darkening of the skin. This problem can come as a result of a lot of different factors, including skin type, disease, and even pregnancy. Pigmentation treatments are out there to deal with each of these different scenarios.

About Pigmentation Treatments

Pigmentation treatments are commonly used to fight a problem known as chloasma. Chloasma affects both men and women, and it refers to a gradual darkening of the skin in blotchy areas. This can happen all over the body, and since it makes people feel uncomfortable it is often something they want to stop.

A number of treatments exist that can fight chloasma. Among them are lightening creams that can actually affect the lightness of the skin. These creams contain hydroquinone, a substance that prevents the creation of new skin pigments.

Skin creams containing hydroquinone must be applied for at least six months to see any noticeable effects. When using these creams, you must also be very careful to avoid exposure to the sun. A few hours in the sun can quickly darken the skin and undo months of chloasma treatments. For this reason, it is also recommended to chloasma sufferers regularly use sun block when they're going to be outside.
