Cotton Socks

Cotton socks are more than a necessity. The really good ones are a true luxury! Of course, we all need to wear cotton socks. They provide warmth and protection. They provide support during exercise, even simple exercise, like taking a long walk around the block. Cotton is renowned for its powers of absorption. During exercise, cotton will keep sweaty feet dry and comfortable.

Too many joggers get lazy about wearing their athletic socks. Any runner or jogger who skips the simple step of pulling on cotton sports socks is foolish, in my opinion. To save themselves a few seconds of effort, they risk shin splints, unhygienic skin rashes, corns, calluses, and more. Without socks to cushion the impact of running, each step they take is a dangerous one.

Although many people think of cotton crew socks only as gym socks, I think they're a lot more versatile than that! Personally, I like to use my thick cotton socks as slippers. I never liked the feel of regular house slippers, but padding around the wooden floors of my home can be tiring on my feet--not to mention chilly! I like to wear thick, cushiony socks, when I'm home writing, or just puttering around the apartment.

New Cotton Socks

I am just amazed at how many of my friends run around with holes in their socks. Look, I know we're all busy. I know that time can slip away, and that the last thing you probably feel like doing on your day off is shopping for cotton socks. However, with the ease and convenience of shopping online, I don't see any reason to wear shabby, old socks, either.

There is nothing quite like the feel of a cushiony, new pair of socks. For the first month or two, they are just heavenly. I like putting them on fresh out of the dryer, when they are warm, fluffy and fresh-smelling.

It's a very simple pleasure, but a real one. I know I'm not alone in this. Fresh, warm socks are just the best. It's amazing to me how people deny themselves the really simple, inexpensive pleasures in life, like a comfy pair of cotton socks, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a night of playing board games. It's as if we are all in pursuit of something flashier, pricier or more exotic, when the truth is, it's the simple things which are usually the most fun.

Ordering Cotton Socks Online

Old, thin socks are just as unpleasant to put on as thick, new ones are a pleasure. Then again, making time to go to the store to pick up new cotton socks is a bit of a hassle. Do yourself a favor, and just order them online.

If you have a PDA or Palm Pilot, you can even write it in and mark it with an alarm. I know that sounds silly, but trust me, it's a great idea. I use my PDA for all kinds of real-life reminders, like getting my haircut, or giving my kitty flea medicine. If I don't, I find that six months have gone by, and my hair is an absolute mess, my cat is scratching like mad, and my socks have holes in them. There's nothing wrong with using modern devices to remind you of old-fashioned obligations.
