Many professionals today are afraid to use creative business card designs. They are stuck in the mindset that business cards must be 3.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall, be printed on a certain paper stock, and have a boring background color. Your business card is a mini-ad for your company, and it has to sell to your clients when you are not present. Here are some design tips for cards that pack a punch.

Creative business card designs are not necessarily printed on paper. With today's technology, you can print on various materials such as wood, magnets, metal, transparent mylar, plastic, and even glass. Each has its limitations, of course, but if you want your card to avoid the circular file, these materials are less likely to be thrown away.

Second, there are unlimited possibilities when it comes to the size and shape of your business card. If you can afford it, consider getting a die cut card in a shape that represents your business: a telephone for a marketing company, bananas for a grocer, or a set of teeth for a dentist. You are only limited by your ideas and your budget.

Finally, creative business card designs do happen on paper as well. You can add color, unique backgrounds, foil stamping, or embossing to jazz up your cards. Folded cards or mini-brochures are also ways to make your designs a little more unusual, catching the attention of your customers and prospects and selling for you long after your meeting is over.
